Atlanta Gay Bars Guide: Midtown, Ansley Square and Cheshire Bridge
· findlucid
Your Atlanta gay bars guide for gay dating in Atlanta: Blake's and X Midtown at the rainbow crosswalks, Bulldogs since 1978, the Atlanta Eagle and Felix's in Ansley Square, the Heretic, and My Sister's Room, with addresses, hours, prices, and a night plan.
Midtown is the gay heart of Atlanta: a walkable run of bars around the rainbow crosswalks at 10th Street and Piedmont Avenue, with Piedmont Park on one side and decades of Black gay culture woven through the scene. The bars stay open late, pour strong, and fill up on weeknights.
Every venue in this guide is a bar, so plan on 21 and over with ID. Most Midtown bars are free on regular nights. Dance clubs and special party nights charge, usually 10 to 25 dollars.
Do the night the Atlanta way. Start on a patio while you can still talk, hop the Ansley Square rooms, then finish dancing.

Blake's on the Park: Midtown's living room
Blake's on the Park at 227 10th Street NE has poured since 1988, right at the rainbow crosswalks. Two levels, a wraparound bar, drag shows through the week, and a patio that is prime people watching on any warm night.
Its promise is plain: never a cover, open every day of the year. Weeknights run 5 PM to 3 AM, weekends start earlier, and Sunday closes at half past midnight.
Bulldogs: the 1978 landmark
Bulldogs at 893 Peachtree Street NE opened in 1978 as Bulldog and Company, and it is the oldest LGBTQ bar in Atlanta still standing in its original spot. What began with a Levi and western theme became a landmark of Black gay Atlanta.
Expect heavy pours, a kitchen and back patio, karaoke and drag through the week, and a line down Peachtree by 11 PM on weekends. It opens at 2 PM most days, noon on weekends, to 3 AM, midnight on Sunday.
X Midtown: the crosswalks dance stop
X Midtown, listed as TEN, at 990 Piedmont Avenue NE sits right at the crosswalks, a short walk from Blake's. The draw is the huge patio with its plant wall, plus drag shows, DJs, and food before the dancing starts.

Late nights run Thursday to Saturday from 8 PM to 3 AM, with a Sunday session from 4 PM to midnight. When the patio bars wind down and you want volume, this is the move.
Ansley Square: the Eagle, Felix's and Oscar's
A short ride north, Ansley Square on Piedmont Avenue packs three rooms into one hop. Atlanta Eagle at 1492 Piedmont Avenue NE is the leather landmark: a gay bar since the mid 1980s, at its old Ponce de Leon home from 1987 to 2020, then reopened here in October 2022 with three bars, a dance floor, a deck, and its own leather shop.
At 1510 Piedmont Avenue NE, Felix's is the dive with trivia on Mondays and karaoke on Tuesdays, and Oscar's pours a glamorous, show tune leaning night in the same building. Both run to 3 AM most nights, midnight on Sunday.
The Heretic: Cheshire Bridge's big room
The Heretic at 2069 Cheshire Bridge Road NE has run since 1991, and it is the big room people drive across the region for: a serious dance floor, a covered deck, and themed nights. Wednesday is Pup Night, Thursday goes country, and Saturday brings touring DJs.
Wednesday and Thursday carry no cover, and Thursday's free country line dance lessons run 8 to 9 PM. Saturday parties are ticketed in advance, and the club is closed Tuesdays and Sundays.
My Sister's Room: holding Midtown since 1996
My Sister's Room at 1104 Crescent Avenue NE, known as MSR, has held Midtown since 1996 and is billed as the longest running lesbian bar in the South. Two levels carry drag, karaoke, and burlesque, and everyone is welcome.
In a country that keeps losing lesbian bars, MSR is the reminder to go and spend money. Weeknights are calmer; weekends are for dancing.
An Atlanta night out: the plan
- Getting around: Midtown around the crosswalks is walkable, Ansley Square is a short rideshare hop, and Cheshire Bridge needs a car or rideshare. MARTA serves Midtown, but trains stop well before the 3 AM close, so plan the ride home first.
- Timing: patios fill from happy hour, Bulldogs lines up by 11 PM, and dance floors peak after midnight. Sunday Funday is real: several rooms open at noon.
- Money: Blake's never charges a cover, and most Midtown bars are free on regular nights. Clubs and special events run 10 to 25 dollars.
- Respect the rooms: these bars hold decades of Black queer and leather history. Tip bartenders and performers, and ask before photos.
- Safety: watch your drink, agree a meeting point with friends, and book the ride home before the last round.
